Lest you think this is glamorous… I think I got the flu. The night watchman said he thinks it’s the “collusion of the water,” but I think it’s the flu. Not that the flu is fun anyways, but it makes the constant smell of trash in the streets (there’s obviously no garbage pick-up), the smell of burning plastic (they burn most of the trash), and the lack of electricity to run a fan for 2 days that much worse. On top of that, I have taste aversion to half of the new foods I’ve tried now – hopefully that won’t last.
But things are looking up. The power came back on in the last hour, I’m feeling a bit better, and I walked into town to find some food that sounded good. I can find most things here, but if it isn’t grown locally it is somewhat pricey. If you have suggestions about what to make with rice, beans, mangoes, pineapple, bananas, avocados, bell pepper, onion, potato, flour, peanut butter, eggs, and spices – let me know. Seriously. I can also find other basic ingredients, pasta, some soup mix, and some sauces like ketchup, salad dressing, bbq sauce, and more, but this is the stuff that gets more expensive. There is also meat available, but I haven’t convinced myself that it’s okay to buy a piece of raw meat that’s been in the sun all day – or longer.
So, any suggestions?
